Squadron Activities We Offer

  • Flying
    • You will be taught how to fly the Grob Tutor and you will be able to experience the thrill of air acrobatics. You may also be lucky enough to fly in other RAF Aircraft!
  • Gliding
    • By enrolling in our gliding programme you will learn all the basics of gliding and if you are at the age of 16 or over you have a chance to enjoy the possibilities of a gliding scholarship. 
  • Shooting
    • This is an opportunity to learn the skill and discipline required to become a gunner in the Royal Air Force Regiment and also compete in shooting competitions with other cadets, we fire three weapons the No. 8 .22 calibre target rifle, the .22 calibre non-automatic L98 and the semi-automatic L81.
  • Adventure Training
    • With the cadets you can experience a diverse range of adventure activities from kayaking and climbing to hiking in events such as Ten Tors. You can also attain your Duke of Edinburgh awards.
  • Drill
    • From the first evening of your Cadet service you will have the opportunity to join in with Drill. Drill is the forming of the Military, every Military service incorporates Drill into its daily workings. You will be taught Drill as part of your First Class Training. It is an excellent way to increase discipline for yourself and it can be a laugh trying to teach your parents!
  • Civic Parades
    • All cadets are actively encouraged to attend civic parades and add to the public profile of the squadron, they usually consist of a march through a town centre, a short church service and if you are lucky, free food!

  • Duke Of Edinburgh
    • With the cadets you are offered the chance to participate in the duke of Edinburgh awards, with the cadets you can do your service, skill, physical recreation and expedition.

  • Ten Tors
    • A breathtaking walk across Dartmoor National Park which takes you across ten well known landmarks of Dartmoor. This is what gives the name ‘ten tors’. A great two days to make new friends and work on teambuilding skills. Fun for all.
  • Professional Qualifications
    • With the Air Cadets you can attain a BTEC in Aviation studies & public services. These can help you with future careers and will have a good impact on your CV.

  • Annual Camps
    • Every year there are camps at fully operational RAF stations throughout the UK. On the camps you are given an exciting opportunity to shoot the L98 rifle, fly in a Grob Tutor and you may be given an opportunity to fly an air experience in the stations aircraft; these can vary from Chinooks to Hercules’. Meet personnel in the career you are looking for!

    • Night Ex’s
      • Ever fancied yourself a lookout?
        Sneaking up behind the enemy and keeping them prisoner?
        Do it here! We offer night exercises out on the beach and in remote locations, such as RAF Stations. We can re-create scenarios such as a downed pilot and you have to find them!
